Default Programs Cancelling their affiliate programs?

So I just read Daizzy's latest post about a company cancelling their affiliate program and thanking their affiliates for all the hard work ... blah blah ...
BUT what happens to the rebills in these circumstances? When a site and company keeps running do they issue their rebills or simply keep them?

we need some rocket science experts in here

btw they are cancelling aff programs or simply not paying (like rehab, sobv and many others), but still accepting all incoming traffic like nothing happened

That's a good question. I suppose it depends on how honest they are. Lets face it, the right thing to do would be to keep paying the affiliate the rebills they made for the website. If they don't then they really are just screwing them over.

One thing I don't understand however is why any of these sites that are still going to keep running are getting rid of the affiliate part? I mean, nobody can get all the traffic out there for their site. So 50% of a sale is better than 0% of nothing.

Also it cost nothing to keep an affiliate program going, or at least it does not have to. I push many small sites that only make a banner for you to use and I get good sales with them. SO cutting out the affiliate part when they are going to keep their site makes no sense.

Unless they are going to stop updating it and just let the site slowly die. Then I can see why they would, otherwise why lose money?

I'll answer this more tomorrow ... a bottle of wine and Kickass calls but basically 50% of a sale is not as good as 100% of sale, if that affiliate was going to get a sale that you'd eventually get anyway, then you'd be better off not having that affiliate. Not all affiliates are equal - we shouldn't be in competition with affiliates for the same traffic sources.

they will most likely suspend all future rebills which the affiliate should be credited for, and they know full well that it takes time to remove links etc and many will get missed, not forgetting the countless links in from affiliates who are not active anymore but keep their sites up for the pocket change that comes in every now and then. Also, how much is in the account where an affiliate never hit his minimum?? they'll keep all that too..

Haven't heard of any programs paying out rebills when they close, and rarely paying out account balances. Heck props are normally given to programs for having an announcement for their closing. Standard operating seems to be ignore payments requests and take in traffic as long as possible. Some even issue phantom sales to keep affiliates sending traffic. Since they arent going to pay anyways adding in sales for affiliates doesn't matter.
